FAQ'S

WHAT IS A DPF?

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is designed capture and hold exhaust soot, helping to minimize emissions from diesel vehicles. However since it has a limited capacity, the accumulated soot must be burned off to the DPF and clear its contents. This regeneration process efficiently incinerates the excess soot within the filter, lowering harmful exhaust emissions. It's an excellent design that benefits both your vehicle and the environment.

WHAT VEHICLES HAVE A DPF?

Legislation requires that all diesel cars manufactured from September 2009 onward must include a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) in the exhaust system to prevent harmful soot from entering the atmosphere The Euro 5 standard mandates this feature for all diesel vehicles, although some produced prior to September 2009 may also have Ds installed. If you're uncertain whether your vehicle is equipped with a DPF, please reach out to us, and’ll gladly verify this based on your vehicle's make, model, or registration. DID YOU KNOW? A malfunctioning DPF can cause your vehicle to fail its MOT! Please note: Petrol engine vehicles do not utilize Diesel Partic Filters (DPFs).

IS DPF CLEANING WORTH DOING?

A DPF filter can become clogged over time due to various reasons, such as a faulty sensor, incorrect engine oil, a malfunctioning turbo, or most commonly, frequent short trips that prevent the filter's regeneration process. Initially, you may notice an engine failure warning light, and if neglected, the engine may enter 'limp' mode, limiting your speed to get the vehicle to a for inspection and repair. If the DPF is irreparably blocked, replacing it can cost around £1,000, and for premium cars, it could exceed £3,500, negating any savings from owning a diesel engine over a petrol one. Regular DPF cleaning help maintain and extend the lifespan of your filter potentially saving you from expensive replacements. In the short term, a DPF clean can enhance your vehicle's power output, improving speed, acceleration, responsiveness. Additionally, it may boost fuel efficiency, with potential savings covering the cleaning cost over time. A filter also effectively reduces harmful emissions, engine noise, and helps prevent MOT emissions failures—making it crucial avoid a blocked filter that could lead to a failed MOT.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CLEAN MY DPF?

Unlike standard car servicing that necessitates leaving your vehicle for the entire day, DPF cleaning can be done while you wait. The duration the DPF cleaning depends on the level of dirt or blockage in the filter, but generally takes around 60 minutes to restore your DPF filter to like-new condition. In cases where the DPF is significantly compromised, the cleaning may extend up to 2 hours, but overall, the process is quite quick.

This is based on a loose DPF only.
